Bonus Bone: Oma bike

Oma bike, at Jorg & Olif

This weekend marks the official end of summer. Le sigh! It's been a great one with wonderful weather. What better way to celebrate a great summer than to take a nice bike ride along Chicago's lakefront path?! I'd love to ride down the path to the Green City Market on the classic Dutch Oma bike. Throw a cute little basket on the front and I'll be all set to return home with some fresh veggies and maybe some sunflowers. Good god, I'd be cuteness on wheels.

Hardwood likes to tease me about my love of all things cute. But seriously how can anyone resist a bike like the Oma?!?!

For these reasons, I, Porcelain, declare this a Design Boner.

Bonus Bone: B&W S&P

The black and white styling of these porcelain salt & pepper shakers is simple but strong. The use of Spanish, however, keeps them spicy.

Bonus Bone: Fresh Photography for Hip Homes

Shopping cart, by Jennifer Squires

February Blues 2, by Jennifer Squires

Tree in Winter, by Jennifer Squires

Jennifer Squires offers up some fresh photography for your hip home in her etsy store. I'm attracted to her quiet, almost lonely prints (as evidence from above). There is a simple beauty about them. She also has some gorgeous shots of flowers and food that would love to grace any one's walls. The prints come in a variety of sizes and Jennifer will work with you to get the perfect print and size for your hip home.

For these reasons, I, Porcelain, declare this a Design Boner.

All You Need is a Good Pin-Tuck

I really like the Pin-Tuck bedding from West Elm. I think the colors are sophisticated and the design is femmy but not fussy. They're like the discerning and sexy divorcée version of my ruffly duvet.

Hurricane Frames

SecondLineFrames is an Etsy store with a conscience. Their beau-ti-ful picture frames are made of wood salvaged from buildings and homes that met their fate in Hurricane Katrina. In addition, this indie store will donate a portion of each sale to the effort to rebuild the damaged neighborhoods.

So that's the scoop on the company ethics but I really think these frames sell themselves. Just look at these stunners...

If you're eager for more, contact SecondLine to discuss a custom commission or visit their sister shop, RebirthFrames.

August is National Sandwich Month!

Sorry! I'm a little late on reporting the start of the 6th Annual National Sandwich Month. Twelve missed sandwiches only means double the fun on days 13 - 31.

My favorite NSM celebrant is Bill Keaggy. He munches a new creation everyday (oops!), flickrs his pics, and then blogs all about it.

So pour yourself a glass of Reuben and live it up!

This TV remote might make watching Olympic skeet shooting a little more exciting. In the very least, the bonus Sheriff's badge will put an end to any household remote wars.

A Top Design Chicago Sighting

Tonight, as I was heading toward PetCo to pick up more Feliway, I spotted John from Season 1 of Top Design at the Starbucks on Clark & Belmont.

I felt the flush of famous, as I strolled down the sidewalk and peered in to see him sipping and chatting. It was very reminiscent of the time I met Season 1 winner, Matt Lorenz. Yet this time, I merely smiled knowingly through the window instead of hovering in an awkward linger and talking trash about my ex-boyfriend.

Unfortunately, I don't remember anything that John accomplished during his time on TD. I just found it rather funny, and somewhat stirring, that I instantly placed his face.

Authentic Human Experience

Thanks goes to A Browner Brown for showing us this achingly beautiful photo journal. Phillip Toledano's Days with My Father is sure to make you tear up at least once.

Expect things to be quiet around here today...

Are You Getting Away?

Castellammare, Sicily
I speak only for myself when I say that this whole blogging thang has got me rather stressed out. I know, I know - you're probably thinking, "But you guys hardly post..." Pish Posh! It's hard to come up with new and clever ways to say THIS CHAIR LOOKS NICE. Sometimes it's near impossible to force open the laptop. Which leads me to...

...vacation...
[insert sigh here]

I'm gearing up for one so Porcelain & I are wondering if you're doing the same. And to where? And I'm all out of clever so it's time for a survey!

Upcoming travel plans?
Yes! Although it seems like a lot of travel time just to take a seven day nap on the beach. But there will be rum punch!
Yes! I finally taking a whirlwind trip to [blank] which I've been planning since I was [blank]!
Yeah. But it's only grandmas/family reunion/road trip to IKEA.
Kinda. I'm part of the summer library program so I'll be reading my way through journeys to distant lands...
Nope. I can't read on the bus. Which is where I'll be. As I go to work. Sucks.
